The Yass Golf Club 1st Edition of our Monthly News Letter.

The Newsletter of the Yass Golf Club – November 2017

From the President:

Welcome to the first of our YGC newsletters that we hope to be putting out regularly to keep our members up to date to what is going on at the Club.

At the recent AGM, there were a few changes to the board, with I, Neville Matthews, taking over the President’s role, John Heggart and Stephen Scroope coming in as Vice President’s, and Bill Scheffler also coming on as a Director. The following members of the board remain from last year: Rod Bullman – Secretary, Sheralee Sheedy – Treasurer, Ed Stanford- Director, Sam Porter and Maureen Bray – Directors of Golf.

During the AGM, a couple of hard working members of the club were inducted as life members to the club, they are Rodney Bullman and Phillip White, a well-deserved honour to both, for there many years of dedication to the Club.

For those who haven’t heard, Kirk Davis is finishing as our resident Professional on December 1st.  We thank Kirk for all his hard work that he has put in over the last 10 years.  We are currently in the process of advertising for a new PGA Professional and would hope to have news on a replacement before the New Year.  In the interim the Pro Shop will be run internally, so please be patient with the attendants in the Pro Shop as we go through the transition period.

  • At the general board meeting on 14 November 2017, the Board approved the following sub-committees:
    • House – John Heggart (Chairman), Bill Scheffler, Matt Waters
    • Finance – Sheralee Waters (Chairman), John Heggart, Rod Bullman, Matt Waters
    • Greens – Steve Scroope (Chairman), Ed Stanford, Phil White, Michael Coggin, Steve Curtis, Wayne Wilson and Ian McLean.

  • Major Raffles:
    • Tickets for the Ford Fiesta provided by John McGrath Auto Group are still available from the bar, so we ask members if they could try and sell tickets to family and friends, so hopefully we can get the car drawn in the New Year. Tickets are $50 each, available for the bar. If you require a book, please see Matthew Waters.
  • Major Prize:
    • Don’t forget to enter the Yass Open for a chance to have a hole-in-one at the 15th and win a car valued at $25,000, also provided by John McGrath Auto Group Goulburn.
  • Friday Night Raffles:
    • A reminder that six meat trays are raffled on Friday’s from 5.30pm to 7.00pm.

Consider this as you prepare for a Hole in One at the 15th at the Yass Open:

The chances of making two consecutive holes in one is at the edge of the realms of possibility and odds have been put anywhere where between 25,000,000 and 65,000,000 to 1. But at the 1971 Martini Tournament in Norwich, England John Hudson did just that, with aces on the 11th and 12th holes. The 11th hole was 195 yards long and the 12th hole, a whopping 311 yards.

Drowning your sorrows

After a particularly poor round, a golfer spotted a lake as he walked despondently up the 18th. He looked at his caddie and said, “I’ve played so badly all day, I think I’m going to drown myself in that lake.” The caddie, quick as a flash, replied, “I’m not sure you could keep your head down that long.”
